ABOUT KIRSTY HOGBEN
Most mornings start with a swim
Sea Swimming Coach, Sea Safety Educator & Ocean Advocate
I'm Kirsty Hogben, a Sea Swimming Coach based in Kent, helping people build confidence, safety and freedom in open water.
Since 2021, I've coached more than 600 swimmers, from complete beginners taking their first steps into the sea to experienced swimmers training for long-distance events and Channel swims.
I've also swum in the sea for more than 1000 consecutive days, developing a deep understanding of cold water, changing conditions and the practical skills needed to enjoy the ocean safely and confidently.
My Story
My relationship with the sea goes beyond swimming.
What began as a daily habit became a way of life.
Through thousands of hours spent in the water, I discovered something powerful: the sea has an incredible ability to challenge us, teach us and reconnect us with ourselves.
Over time, people began asking for help with their own sea swimming journeys.
Some wanted to overcome fear.
Some wanted to improve their technique.
Some wanted support preparing for events and endurance swims.
Others simply wanted to feel comfortable in the sea for the first time.
That's how my coaching journey began.
Today, I help people develop the confidence, knowledge and practical skills needed to enjoy the sea safely and independently.
What I Believe
I believe sea swimming should be:
Safe
Accessible
Enjoyable
Empowering
Every swimmer is different.
Some arrive feeling nervous about waves, cold water or deep water.
Others are looking to improve their performance.
My role is to meet people where they are and help them progress at their own pace.
No pressure. No ego. Just practical coaching, real-world experience and a love of the sea.
